Support for WA Low Income Housing Alliance #RentReliefNow

I support Washington Low Income Housing Alliance’s advocacy for Federal funding of emergency rental assistance. #RentReliefNow.

Excerpt below from a message from Rachael Myers, Executive Director, Washington Low Income Housing Alliance.

On May 15, the U.S. House passed the HEROES Act by a vote of 208-199. Thanks to the powerful and effective work of advocates across the country and the support of congressional housing champions, the bill includes $100 billion in emergency rental assistance; $11.5 billion in additional funding to prevent and respond to coronavirus outbreaks among people experiencing homelessness; and a national, uniform moratorium on evictions and foreclosures. These priorities were included because 140+ Representatives and 30+ Senators sponsored the Emergency Rental Assistance and Rental Market Stabilization Act lead by our own Rep. Denny Heck, and co-sponsored by Washington Representatives Jayapal, DelBene, Larsen, Kilmer, Schrier, and Smith, and Sen. Murray. This is an important step forward, but there’s still so much to do. Congress must take every step to prevent housing instability and homelessness as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Take action today to urge Congress to ensure housing stability during and after the COVID-19 pandemic!

Take Action!

Even if you’ve already taken action, please contact your members of Congress today to thank those who have co-sponsored theRent Relief Act and ask those who haven’t to show their support. You can also tweet thanks using #RentReliefNow. (Here’s a link to Twitter handles of sponsors.) If you represent an organization or a state or local elected official, please also consider joining this national sign on letter urging House and Senate leaders to address housing needs in the next relief package.

My priorities are to fully fund education, ensure safety of our communities, and protect our privacy, the environment, and consumers from predatory lenders. I will work to increase affordable housing units and access to homeownership, while fixing our aging infrastructures.

My goal is to continue to chair the Community Development, Housing and Tribal Affairs Committee and serve on the new Washington Tourism Marketing Authority board along with other committee assignments. I will advocate for small business owners and local jobs, and help make Washington State a better place for us to live, work, and raise our families.

I have challengers for both the Primary Election on August 7th and the General Election on November 6th, and so I am asking for your participation in my campaign.  One way is to join me and Representative Ruth Kagi for my campaign kickoff!  We will be joined by candidate Lauren Davis for Position 2 for great conversations and fundraising.

If you cannot attend but would like to make a contribution, please donate here. Thank you so very much and see you soon!
