On May 15, the U.S. House passed the HEROES Act by a vote of 208-199. Thanks to the powerful and effective work of advocates across the country and the support of congressional housing champions, the bill includes $100 billion in emergency rental assistance; $11.5 billion in additional funding to prevent and respond to coronavirus outbreaks among people experiencing homelessness; and a national, uniform moratorium on evictions and foreclosures. These priorities were included because 140+ Representatives and 30+ Senators sponsored the Emergency Rental Assistance and Rental Market Stabilization Act lead by our own Rep. Denny Heck, and co-sponsored by Washington Representatives Jayapal, DelBene, Larsen, Kilmer, Schrier, and Smith, and Sen. Murray. This is an important step forward, but there’s still so much to do. Congress must take every step to prevent housing instability and homelessness as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Take action today to urge Congress to ensure housing stability during and after the COVID-19 pandemic!
